*Annabeth often calls Percy seaweed brain

Where do I begin.

CHARACTERS
First lets start of with the characters who make this book better, who without this book could have sucked. The main character Perseus (Percy) Is a 12 year old boy who THINKS he is just a normal kid with an ordinary but suckish life. Why is it suckish? First of all he is dyslexic and has ADHD he also has a really shitty step dad and has no clue about who his real dad is.He soon finds out he is ‘special’. In fact he is ‘special’ among the special because not only is he a demigod but he is a son of Poseidon (one of the ‘big three’).Percy is an amazing character he is interesting and funny enough to carry us through the story. He is a good role model and someone you could look up to and if I’m being honest I might’ve maybe formulated a small incy wincy crush on him even though he is a fictional character. How could I not he is smart(ish) brave and funny no matter how much of a * ‘seaweed brain’ he is.

Another good role model would be Annabeth chase daughter of Athena who makes the list of my top favourite female heroines. She is everything girls should aspire to be and is a great supporting character and friend to Percy.

How could I forget Grover the goofy and loveable satyr (yes the half men goat things). He is one of my favourite characters and has earned my respect. Although he doesn’t see himself as much compared to Percy but he is a great addition to their team.

THE SETTING
The setting of this is in America, new York. Also the thing that makes this book unique is the Greek mythology aspect of the book so intricately and subtly inputted in the book. The way in which the author (Rick Riordan) puts in bits of Greek mythology is astounding!

THE WRITING
This book is written very well and as I have already said the way the Greek mythology is incorporated in the book is just perfect. The way the characters and the setting was described was perfect I had a really clear idea of what every character looked like. I pictured Percy Jackson as Chace Crawford ;)This book ended nicely. Although the main plot of this book was the theft of Zeus’s lightning bolt it all leads up to something greater and I’m definitely going to stick around to find out more.

Overall
This book definitely makes my top list. It is one of those books that when you start you cant stop till you see ‘THE END’ written at the bottom of the page.I recommend this to anyone looking for a fun and lighthearted read.

  1. Love this series and it’s universally popular with my students. Enjoying your blog. And I really like the Coming Soon button at the side, and would love to add one to my page. Can’t figure out how to do it though. Can you offer any guidance?
    Thank you.
